Invisalign® in Sugar Land, TX

When it comes to orthodontic treatment, you most likely think of a teen with a mouth full of metal. Though traditional metal braces is an effective treatment for repositioning teeth and it remains popular today, another option is available with Invisalign®️. This treatment consists of a system of clear aligners that gradually changes the alignment of the teeth. It can be used by both teen patients and adults in Sugar Land and can be found at Colony Dental.

Invisalign®️ offers several benefits over traditional metal braces, including:

  • They are nearly invisible
  • They are more comfortable than metal braces.
  • They reduce damage and discomfort in the cheeks and gums.
  • They are removable and easier to clean than metal braces.
  • Treatment time is often shorter.
  • How does it work?

Orthodontics treatment in general works by applying steady pressure on the teeth to change their position along the gumline. Traditional braces do this through a system of brackets and wires. Invisalign®️ utilizes aligners custom-fit to the teeth and worn in a specific order.

Your dentist at Colony Dental will have the aligners made by taking measurements and impressions of your teeth. A treatment plan will be created to map out the projected movement of the teeth. You may even be able to see a preview of the expected results.

The treatment will require you to wear each aligner for 20 to 22 hours a day, taking them out only to eat and to clean them. A new aligner will be switched out approximately every week according to the treatment plan. Not as many appointments with your dentist in Sugar Land will be needed as with traditional orthodontic treatment, but you will have to check in occasionally to ensure that treatment is going as planned. The average treatment time with Invisalign®️ is about 12 months; it will depend on the severity of the dental occlusion. Once treatment has been completed, a retainer is usually recommended to prevent the teeth from shifting back to their original positions.
