DNA Appliance – Treatments and Benefits
The DNA oral appliance and how it is helping patients in Sugar Land and the greater Houston, Texas area, correct Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
The DNA appliance is an alternative sleep apnea oral appliance for obstructive sleep apnea. It works naturally to permanently, non-surgically re-construct a patient’s airway by stimulating new bone growth in the oral cavity. The purpose is to optimize the underlying structures of the airway by widening the arch, altering the shape of the oral cavity, improving a person’s ability to breath, and providing a permanent sleep apnea remedy. Many patients experience results allowing them to be CPAP free providing an alternative that is truly corrective.
How the DNA Appliance Works
The DNA oral appliance gently expands the upper arch space in three dimensions, which in turn increases the size of the nasal cavity. As the upper arch is widened, the lower jaw is able to move forward into a more natural position. As the jaw moves forward, it pulls the tongue and soft tissues, thus increasing the size of the airway. The result is a dramatic improvement in the patient’s ability to breathe.
The patented DNA appliance uses DNA wireTM and patented 3D axial springsTM to store kinetic energy, which is then released at night during the growth hormone circadian rhythm. This stored-energy is necessary to initiate cellular growth in the mid-face and mandible. It increases upper mid-facial volume for better airway exchange and helps establish a more ideal occlusion, at the same time leading to a noninvasive facial cosmetic correction. Results have been present in as little as 90 days.
Cosmetic Benefits Similar to Injectables and Fillers
The DNA appliance, short for “the Daytime Nighttime Appliance”, system is unique because it was not only developed to lessen OSA, it also straightens teeth and improves the upper airway. By improving the upper airway diameter, an increase in facial volume, a cosmetic benefit of facial feature balancing occurs. This can give a lifting result similar to that found with an injectable or filler such as juvederm or radiesse but is a natural and permanent solution. Some patients have even reported this is much like a “non-surgical facelift”. To see these results please view the case studies.
Our body has the ability to self-correct if the proper stimuli and conditions are provided. Enhancing the upper airway by wearing a DNA appliance may change a patient’s facial features in the following ways:
• From one with deep nasolabial grooves and thinner lips to one with shallower grooves, resulting in greater lip volume.
• An increase in volume of the craniofacial architecture
• An increase in facial symmetry
